Roger faced veteran, Philip Kohlschreiber, today in the round of 16. The German came out looking strong and playing at the top of his game, challenging Roger to a tie-break in the 1st. Neither player let up in the second, and the two battled. Roger was able to break at 5-5 and serve out the match to capture the win 7-6(10), 7-5.
Roger takes one step closer to becoming the number one player on the ATP.
February 14, 2018 --Rotterdam, Netherlands
Looking fresh and ready to compete, Roger took the court today for his first round match against Ruben Bemelmans at the Rotterdam Open. He spent just 18 minutes capturing the first set. And continued to drill winners off both wings as he won the match 6-1. 6-2 in 47 minutes.
The 36-year-old takes one step closer to reaching that number one ranking. He will play Philipp Kohlschreiber in the Round of 16.

Roger has decided to participate in the 45th Rotterdam Tournament which begins February 12th.
This will be Roger's 9th appearance and he won the tournament in 2005 and 2012.
"The tournament is special for me. I remember playing for the first time in 1999 as it was one of the first events where I got the chance to play at the highest level. It feels good to join in the celebrations of the 45th edition."
Currently ranked number 2, the Swiss star has the opportunity to take over the number 1 spot next week if he gets to the Semifinals. He will become the oldest player on the ATP to take over that number 1 ranking.

He did it! The dream continues for Roger Federer as he captured his 6th Australian Open and 20th Grand Slam Title today.
Taking a quick, dominating start to the match, it looked as if the Croatian, Marin Cilic, was going to be no match for the Swiss Maestro.
However, Cilic settled in after dropping the first set quickly and the match became close with both exchanging big serves and groundstrokes to dictate points. Pushing the match to five sets, Roger was able to break right off the bat in the 5th giving him the lead he needed to remain calm and play offensive. Roger successfully captured his 6th Australian Open 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Pausing with emotion, Roger was overwhelmed while giving his speech after a five set battle against Cilic.
"I'm so happy, it's unbelievable,” he said in an emotional speech. "It's been a long time waiting for this final. It's easier in the afternoon, but when it's at night you think about it all day. I'm happy it's over now. It's a dream come true and the fairy-tale continues. After the year I had last year, it's incredible."
Roger is now the 3rd man after Ken Rosewall and Rod Laver, in the Open Era to win all four Grand Slam titles after the age of 30. He also moves within 155 points of the number one ranking. He is now tied for second on the list with 94 Tour level titles with Ivan Lendl, behind Jimmy Connors who has 109.
January 26, 2018 -- Melbourne, Australia
Roger is into the Finals at the Australian Open after defeating 21-year old, Hyeon Chung. After a demanding two weeks, Chung stepped on the court with a bad case of blisters. After such a strong run for the young player, he was noticeably hurting and off his game, which allowed Roger to break several times and win the first set in standard fashion. Chung's movement just wouldn't hold up and he ended up retiring after being down 6-1, 5-2.
"You do take the faster matches when you can because there's enough wear and tear on the body," Roger said. "There's enough tough matches throughout the season that when they happen, you take them."
Roger goes into the Finals without having dropped a set in Melbourne. He will face Marin Cilic in the Finals.
"I never thought I was going to play a bit of a lesser schedule, which actually is quite enjoyable," he admitted. "I always thought, 'I'm just going to keep playing from January to November every single year -- 20-something tournaments.' But I was able to adapt to that. Maybe that's also one of the reasons why I'm still here."
